Day 1: Lands End to Tavistock

We got lucky this morning with the weather. Despite the amount of dark clouds in the distance, we had clear blue sky above us when we left the hotel to drive down to Land's End. And sunshine - lovely sunshine.
A quick bit of prep turned into quite a bit of prep

Which meant we were a lttle later getting to the starting point than planned, but having signed the register of End-to-enders, we then dodged the first few coachloads of tourists (it's amazing how easy it is to be heroric before you've actually done anything!) of the day to have our photo done.
and then we were off! A lovely day at first, if a little chilly, but we soon got going ok. we had a shower mid-morning at about Helston, but nothing much and we made good progress, even though it was pretty hilly, raight from the off. By early afternoon the constant hills got a bit wearing! (discovered at the end of the day that we'd completed about 3500m of climbing!) Got up pretty high at some points

but eventually made it to Tavistock, a little later than planned.

Tomorrow's route from Tavistock to Bridgwater - slightly shorter at 84 miles - and definitely not as hilly. the worst bits are early on too. However, the weather forecast looks horrible - lots of rain and wind!
Never mind, we'll dry out.....
