..and on the fifth day....

...not a great deal happened and certainly not much to photograph!

Having stayed overnight at John and Mary's (thank you Mary for getting so much washing done and dried in such a short time!) we started later than normal after a later than usual night before and knowing that the day was relatively short and flat(ish). The only problem is that it was, well, dull.

The first section up to Loggerheads and then Nantwich was good riding and although it was very overcast, we could see for miles in all directions - including the North Wales mountains in the distance.

But after that it was pretty built up and very stop-start most of the way through Warrington and then Wigan and we seemed to be dodging Motorways every 10 minutes! Once again we got well-soaked in the later half of the afternoon, but the rain stopped about 1/2 hour before we arrived, so we had a little time to dry off before we rode into Chorley and the village of Eccleston.

We arrived at Parr Hall B&B nice and early (about 4.30)....

...had a bath and an hour or so sorting a few things out (emails mainly) and then went over the road to eat at the 'Original' Farmer's Arms. Easily the best value meal so far this week (2 courses for £7.99!) and the beer was pretty good too! We've eaten very well so far, relying on pub meals, but usually finding something good value - probably not enough veg to qualify for our 5 a day, but big on carbohydrates generally.

I thought about listing all the meals we've had so far J, but thought a picture of some Geese we spotted on the way to the pub would be nicer!

The route for day 6 is pretty much all the A6. Up through Garstang, Lancaster, Kendall, and skirting the Lake District (via Shap Fell (about 6km at a gradient of 4.5% up to 426m) to Penrith. Could be a long day..
